THE SOMALI POLICE OFFICERS TRAINEED BY GUARDIA DI FINANZA IN ITALY HAVE BEEN RECEIVED TODAY BY THE ITALIAN AMBASSADOR, MR. ANDREA MAZZELA, AND THE MINISTER OF FINANCE, MR. HUSSEIN HALANE/AID PACKAGE FUNDED BY ITALY IN MOGADISHU.
MOGADISHU, 31st MARCH 2014
The Italian Ambassador, Mr. Andrea Mazzella, and the Minister of Finance, Mr. Hussein Abdi Halane, received today at the International Airport of Mogadishu the twenty Somali police officers hosted in Italy for a training course organized by the “Guardia di Finanza” in Orvieto , with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs .
The course involved Somali police officers coming from Hargheisa in Somaliland, from Garowe in Puntland and from the capital of Mogadishu, who have been trained in (i) legislation on the international movement of people, goods and services, (ii) self-defense, (iii) border controls and (iv) fight against terrorism . The training is part of a wider aid package funded by Italy, including vehicles and uniforms for the Somali Police and National Army expected to arrive in Mogadishu in the coming days.
Italy is strongly committed to help the Somali Institutions in ensuring peace and stability. The Italian Ministry of Defense has chosen one of its best officials, Brig. Gen. Massimo Mingiardi, as a Mission Commander of the multinational European Union Training Mission, EUTM.
In Mogadishu more than seventy Italian soldiers are operating in support of peace and stability.

L’Ambasciatore d’Italia Andrea Mazzella e il Ministro delle Finanze Hussein, Abdi Halane, hanno ricevuto oggi presso l’Aeroporto Internazionale di Mogadiscio i 20 poliziotti somali ospitati in Italia per un corso di addestramento organizzato ad Orvieto dalla GdF, con il sostegno del Ministero degli Affari Esteri.
Il Corso ha coinvolto poliziotti somali provenienti da Hargeisa in Somaliland, da Garowe in Puntland e dalla capitale Mogadiscio che sono stati formati in (i) legislazione sulla circolazione internazionale di persone, mezzi e servizi, (ii) difesa personale, (iii) controlli alle frontiere, (iv) contrasto al terrorismo. L’addestramento è parte di un pacchetto complessivo di aiuti offerti dall’Italia, che vedrà giungere a Mogadiscio nei prossimi giorni automezzi ed uniformi per la polizia e le forze armate federali somale.
In questo contesto l’Italia è fortemente impegnata al fianco delle Istituzioni somale per garantire la pace e la stabilità. Il Ministero della Difesa, ha inviato all’inizio dell’anno uno dei suoi migliori Ufficiali, il Gen. Brig. Massimo Mingiardi, al comando della Missione di addestramento multinazionale dell’Unione Europea, EUTM. A Mogadiscio, i militari italiani che operano a sostegno della pace sono oggi, oltre settanta.
